Biography
Celia Burbush is interested in how participating in the creative process gives us insights that could not be obtained via other means. It enables a particular type of thinking or learning, one that can be generative and vital to our self-understanding and development. Hence, Celia commits half of her time to working with others, such as schools and community groups, and has done since 2004. She also thrives on the commissioning process, working with others to co-create an artwork that is completely bespoke to them. Underpinning this interest is a passion for people and their stories, and the role of art and craft in translating and transporting this 'material' through time.
She is aware of the power that participating in an artistic process holds: “When we create, we make our philosophies visible. They begin to exist and to exist in the mind of others.”
Celia is currently embarking on an ambitious multi-generational project commissioned by the Kirkgate Centre in Cockermouth and funded by Arts Council England, using the creative process in collaboration with others, to re-imagine cultural space.
