Description
Exploring unexamined histories of Maryport in Cumbria, with 45 primary school children. The project extended over 3 months, and incorporated sculpture, story-making, painting, and animation. 45 films were made across 6 schools, recounting tales of King Owain who lived 1000 years ago, Lady Margaret and her Golden Coffin and an array of other characters. The children weaved in local tales of hobs and other fairy folk to bring their stories to life.
Doris Riley's book provided a unique starting point, both a first-hand account of five generations of a family who had tended the gardens of Ewanrigg Hall which now lay in ruins, and also full of more distant tales of the above viking kings and other characters.
